Spoons and cakes, is one of the most established when it comes to designing cakes and small chops, cup cakes and catering services for special events. Events forest captured a moment with spoons and cakes in Abuja.

How it started

Spoons and cake started in 2001 by Mr.s Titi Olobayo.  In the interview, she said:

“Even though I don’t eat cake, I have always had the urge to make cakes and I have always admired cakes since I was young. One of my kids encouraged me to start the catering business since I was good at it. I went for training due to the fact that cake business is vast and wide, and cake making is artistic. I went for various training on cakes. One of the persons who trained me was Tosan (a good cake baker and decorator). I needed to go for all this training so as to give my customers the best”.

There are so many challenges in the business. So many times, one has to be on his/her feet decorating and baking one cake or the other. “A time at night before I got to this stage, my husband will be with me in the sitting room watching me and giving me moral support”.

As time went on, I had to employ people to assist me but when some workers, see how tedious and stressful the work is, they tend to leave. Cake business entails hard work and passion if not one won’t go further in it.

Also in the areas of getting workers, once a worker is trained, he tends to leave for greener pasture. At a point l wanted giving up but for the passion I have for cake making, I didn’t give up.

Cake making, is money demanding. Depending on the stage one is in the business, one has to buy ovens, mixers and all tools and equipment for the business. From time to time one has to buy accessories and catch up with the latest trend in the business to meet up with customer’s sophisticated taste.

Advice to young entrepreneur

My advice to new entrepreneurs who are into cake making is that they must be focused and have passion for the work and keep on attending trainings and seminars. They should also endeavor to join professional cake groups either online or offline for better tutoring and improvement of skills.
